Beef Macaroni Casserole

Our kids are big fans of my Mum and Dad's Beef Macaroni so when I found a similar recipe turned into a casserole on Recipe Lion I knew I just had to give it a go.

The result is another scrumptious family favourite to add to our list.  A top score of 10/10 from the kids however they did say that Nan and Pop's original still comes out top.

Beef Macaroni Casserole.

250g macaroni pasta
1 tablespoon oil for frying - I use madacamia
1 brown onion, diced
1 clove of garlic, finely diced
1kg minced beef
400g can whole peeled tomatoes
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
420g can condensed tomato soup
½ teaspoon dried thyme or a few sprigs of fresh
Cracked black pepper, seasoning
1 cup cheddar cheese, cubed

Preheat oven to 180°C.

Cook the macaroni as per packet instructions.  Drain and set aside.

While the macaroni is cooking heat the oil in a large frying pan.  Add the onion and garlic and cook for 5 minutes or until onion becomes translucent.  Add the minced beef and brown well.

Tip the can of tomatoes into a small bowl and break up using your hands.  Set aside.

Once the mince has browned add the tomatoes, Worcestershire sauce, tomato soup and thyme.  Season with black pepper and mix well.

Now add the cooked noodles to the pan and mix together.  Remove from the heat and tip into a casserole dish.  My dish measures 20x20cm.

Sprinkle the cheese over the top.

Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes.  Remove foil and bake a further 15-20 minutes or until golden on top.

  1. That's a beautiful casserole. I bet the Worsestershire gives it a nice flavor.

    1. I add Worcestershire sauce to a lot of pasta dishes now. Good little addition.
